JJIF Entourage Commission
Definition
The Entourage comprises all the people associated with the athletes, including, without limitation, managers, agents, coaches, physical trainers, medical staff, scientists, sports organisations, sponsors, lawyers and any person promoting the athlete’s sporting career, including family members.
General Principles
These principles are adapted from international best practices, including the IOC Athletes’ Entourage Commission framework and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Code, and are applied within the cultural values of martial arts — respect, discipline, and integrity.
1. Ethical Commitment
-Respect and follow ethical principles of ju jitsu values, as well as international standards such as the WADA Code.
-Always act in the best interests of the athlete, balancing performance with health, education, and long-term well-being.
-Give special care and protection to minors and vulnerable athletes.
-Hold appropriate qualifications, licenses, or certifications for the role performed.
2. Integrity
-Act in good faith, avoiding conflicts of interest and rejecting any form of corruption, bribery, or unfair advantage.
-Uphold the fight against doping and cheating in all forms.
-Refrain from harassment, bullying, abuse of authority, or exploitation of athletes.
-Maintain discipline and role-model conduct, reflecting the honor and respect inherent to martial arts.
-Refrain from betting on martial arts competitions or promoting gambling activities.
3. Confidentiality
-Respect Confidentiality
-Protect sensitive information obtained through professional duties and never misuse privileged access.
4. Transparency
-Define relationships with athletes clearly, ideally through written agreements.
-Be open and truthful about professional qualifications, experience, and any past issues that may affect trust.
-Support athletes in understanding their rights, obligations, and available dispute resolution mechanisms.
5. Responsibility
-Always act with due diligence and prioritize the long-term development and welfare of the athlete over short-term success.
-Ensure contractual terms are fair, with financial transparency and appropriate liability coverage.
-Respect the athlete’s physical, mental, and emotional integrity.
-Keep athletes fully informed of all matters conducted on their behalf.
-Follow good accounting and reporting practices, and provide clear records to athletes and relevant authorities when required.
6. Sanctions
-Any breach of these principles or federation regulations by entourage members will be subject to disciplinary action as defined by the federation’s procedures.
7. Athlete's Responsibility
-Athletes should select entourage members carefully, with due diligence.
-They are encouraged to ensure contracts and agreements are fair, transparent, and consistent with martial arts values.
