Contact Ju-Jitsu

Contact Ju-Jitsu is one of the official competition styles of the Ju-Jitsu International Federation (JJIF). It combines striking, throwing, and groundwork into a complete and dynamic combat format. Designed to reflect the reality of fighting, it is often considered the most comprehensive form of sport Ju-Jitsu.
The key feature that distinguishes Contact Ju-Jitsu from other styles is the use of full, non-controlled strikes. Athletes must demonstrate their ability to fight effectively in all ranges – long distance (striking), mid-range (throws), and close contact (groundwork).
The desire to have a JJIF competition in FULL CONTACT was discussed for many years.
In the Asian Championship 2017 in Hanoi/ Vietnam for the first time and was already in the Asian Indoor and Martial Art Games 2017 Ashgabat / Turkmenistan official in the event program.
Structure of the Fight
The match is conducted in three continuous phases:
Phase 1 – Stand-Up Striking (Atemi-Waza)
- Includes punches, kicks, and other full-contact strikes.
- The aim is to establish dominance in the stand-up phase and prepare transitions.
- Accuracy, power, defense, and counter-attacks are crucial.
Phase 2 – Striking Combined with Throws (Atemi + Nage-Waza)
- Striking continues without interruption.
- Athletes are also allowed to execute throwing techniques and take downs.
- This phase highlights the ability to combine striking with throws, effectively transitioning the fight from stand-up to the ground.
Phase 3 – Groundwork (Ne-Waza)
- Striking is limited now and only allowed to the body.
- Includes pins, guard passing, joint locks, and choking techniques.
- Victory may be achieved by points or submission.

The evolution of a fighter
Fighting | HIF | AIMAG | Full | MMA | What is that about? To give athletes the pathway for a natural and safe development JJIF adapted a variation of the rule set without strikes to the head. | Head Impact Free - short HIF.
These two different ways to conduct Contact Ju-Jitsu events are parallel in Place to provide a “natural” evolution of skills and experience
Athletes Training various Martial Art can develop their skills step by step up to a professional fighter career.
Coming from Jiu-Jitsu [no strikes] or Ju-Jitsu Fighting system [semi contact]
the next level is Contact Ju-Jitsu HIF which does not allow contact to the head to not risk concussions and other damages
Contact Ju-Jitsu AIMAG* rules [FULL] is then fought with head guard, bigger gloves and strict safety rules regarding the stop of a fight by the referee through TKO
If athletes master all these steps the way might be open for a professional career as a fighter - at least JJIF enabled a way as safe as possible to evolve.
*AIMAG = Asian Indoor and Martial Art Games - the first OCA event Contact Ju-Jitsu was conducted - so that name stayed as clear description of the discipline
