What Ju-Jitsu for Peace Is
Ju-Jitsu for Peace uses martial arts as a tool for social development and peace-building.
Designed especially for children and young people in vulnerable communities, the program promotes self-confidence, discipline, respect, and emotional balance through regular Ju-Jitsu practice.
It is recognized by the Peace and Sport Program for its preventive work with populations facing social challenges.
Where We Work & Who We Serve
- Began in Ciudad Bolívar, Colombia in 2011
- Expanded to Usme (Bogotá) and Agua de Dios, Cundinamarca
- Focus on children and adolescents exposed to violence or lacking safe recreational spaces
Objectives
General Purpose
Use Ju-Jitsu as a pedagogical and preventive tool to address social challenges among children and youth.
Specific Goals
- Restore access to sport and recreation
- Encourage regular Ju-Jitsu practice in targeted communities
- Provide safe, fun, and meaningful activities during free time
- Support motor and cognitive development through training
- Improve overall quality of life: self-esteem, social behavior, emotional control
