The International Testing Agency (ITA), which leads the independent anti-doping programme for the Ju-Jitsu International Federation (JJIF), has notified Kuwaiti ju-jitsu athlete Amer Alhajri of an apparent anti-doping rule violation following an adverse analytical finding (AAF).
The sample was collected in competition on 17 July 2026, during the Asian Championships 2026, and returned an adverse analytical finding for several prohibited substances, including metabolites of drostanolone and tamoxifen, as well as 19-norandrosterone (19-NA) and anastrozole.
Drostanolone and 19-NA are prohibited under section S1.1, “Anabolic Androgenic Steroids,” of the 2026 WADA Prohibited List. Anastrozole is listed under section S4.1, “Aromatase Inhibitors,” while tamoxifen is listed under section S4.2, “Anti-Estrogenic Substances.” All four substances are prohibited at all times, both in and out of competition, and are classified as non-specified substances.
The athlete has been informed of the case and has the right to request analysis of the B-sample. If the B-sample is requested and confirms the A-sample result, the case will be considered a confirmed anti-doping rule violation. If the B-sample analysis is not requested, the case will also proceed as a confirmed anti-doping rule violation. The athlete will have an opportunity to provide explanations regarding the result.
In accordance with the World Anti-Doping Code and Article 7.4.1 of the JJIF Anti-Doping Rules, a mandatory provisional suspension has been imposed. The athlete has the right to challenge the provisional suspension and request its lifting.
As JJIF has delegated its anti-doping programme to the ITA, the prosecution of this case is being handled entirely by the ITA. As the case remains ongoing, no further comments will be made at this stage.
