German Open 2026: more than 520 athletes compete in Halle

| JJIFNewsEurope

The German Open European Cup 2026 is complete. From 22 to 25 October, more than 520 athletes stepped on the tatami at the Sporthalle Brandberge in Halle (Saale), Germany, for four days of competition from U16 to adults.

The event was organised by the German Ju-Jutsu Federation (DJJV) as a European Cup of the Ju-Jitsu European Union (JJEU). Congratulations to every medallist, and thank you to all athletes, coaches, referees and volunteers who made it possible.

Four days, four age groups

Each age group had its own day on the mats:
- Thursday 22 October: U16
- Friday 23 October: U18
- Saturday 24 October: U21, plus adult Jiu-Jitsu
- Sunday 25 October: adult Fighting, and U21 Jiu-Jitsu

The disciplines

Athletes competed in Fighting and Jiu-Jitsu [CHECK: also Duo and Show? The DJJV calendar lists them; the invitation names Fighting and Ju-Jitsu].

Fighting is a complete fight with kicks and punches, throws and take downs, and ground fight. Each combat lasts three minutes and runs in three parts.

In Jiu-Jitsu the fight starts with two athletes standing, and the main part normally takes place on the ground. Punches and kicks are not allowed; the goal is to submit the opponent.

A welcome in the city

On the evening of Thursday 22 October, the City of Halle welcomed the guests with a reception at the Stadthaus. Lord Mayor Dr. Alexander Vogt, Saxony-Anhalt's Minister of the Interior and Sport Dr. Tamara Zieschang, State Sports Federation President Silke Renk-Lange and JJEU President Michael Korn attended.

What's next

Later this season, ju-jitsu will feature at the OCA Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from 11 to 21 December 2026, with Jiu-Jitsu on the programme at Boulevard Riyadh City.
