JJIF Congress 2025: A Milestone of Constancy and Development in International Ju-Jitsu

The 2025 JJIF Congress marked a significant chapter in the ongoing evolution of international Ju-Jitsu, underscoring the federation's commitment to stability and growth. The Congress unanimously approved the work of the executive board, reflecting strong confidence in the leadership steering the sport forward. A highlight preceding the Congress was the election of the new Athletes Commission, a body representing the voices of Ju-Jitsu athletes worldwide. This commission boasts representation from three continents, ensuring a diverse and inclusive perspective within the federation. The Athletes Commission serves as the official advocate for international Ju-Jitsu athletes, with its two speakers holding full voting rights as JJIF board members. Their term extends until 2028, aligned with the JJIF election cycle. The newly elected members of the Athletes Commission include:

  • Isra Waseem (Pakistan) – Duo/Show, Women
  • Mehran Sattar (Iran) – Jiu-Jitsu/Fighting, Men
  • Dmytro Pernykoza (Ukraine) – Jiu-Jitsu, Men
  • Anna Fuhrmann (Austria) – Fighting, Women
  • Gary Hensley (USA) – Jiu-Jitsu, Men
  • Marianne Gaviño Barenca (Mexico) – Jiu-Jitsu, Women

Isra Waseem and Dmytro Pernykoza were confirmed as board members of JJIF with full voting rights, reinforcing athlete representation at the highest decision-making level. 

In a notable development, Michael Korn, the newly elected President of the Ju-Jitsu European Union (JJEU) from Germany, joined the JJIF executive board as Vice President, bringing fresh leadership and regional expertise to the global stage. 

The Congress also honored Dario Quenza from Italy, former JJEU President and current President of Ju-Jitsu Italy, with honorary membership and induction into the JJIF Hall of Fame. This year marks Dario’s remarkable 60 years of dedication to Ju-Jitsu, a testament to his lifelong commitment to the sport. The JJIF Congress 2025 thus stands as a beacon of continuity and progress, blending experienced leadership with new voices to guide Ju-Jitsu into a promising future. 

JJIF President Panagiotis Theodoropoulos expressed his satisfaction that all development is very positive.
